Massively parallel sequencing has rapidly revolutionized DNA and RNA research. Sample preparations are steadfastly advancing, sequencing costs have plummeted and throughput is ever growing. This pr

Course book For this year, we have chosen the book "Practical computing for the biologist" by Haddock and Dunn. The top two best performing methods, KTH-SE and PRAG-CZ, performed similarly. Based on the SEG and TRA measures, they were assigned the same rank of 3, with PRAG-CZ the best in segmenting and KTH-SE the best in tracking. Globally, KTH-SE was ranked first because it was ∼5× faster than PRAG-CZ.

Content and learning outcomes. Course contents. Bio-informatic theory and practice: Pairwise sequence alignment of protein and DNA/RNA- sequences,

Within this broadly defined research area, we are particularly interested in: transcriptome reconstruction and differential gene expression, including isoform assessment and allelic imbalances; regulatory mechanisms including both protein factor binding and chromatin modification events; the influence of genome (and transcriptome) variants on phenotype; and the integration of all BB2440 Bioinformatics and biostatistics 7.0 hp. Please note that this course was given the last time the fall semester of 2016. It will not be given again. A similar course is BB2441 Bioinformatics 7.5 hp, given the first time the fall semester of 2017. bioinformatics research at AstraZeneca; sequencing within the human genome project; KTH Royal Institute of Technology SE-100 44 Stockholm Sweden +46 8 790 60 00.

Mikael Johansson earned the M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Lund University, Sweden, in 1994 and 1999, respectively. He held postdoctoral research positions at Stanford University and UC Berkeley before joining KTH in 2002, where he now serves as a full professor.

Computerized analysis has a role both as support for wet-lab projects and as a means of extracting knowledge from already available datasets. We are located at SciLifeLab, Sweden’s main centre for high-throughput biology, and work on computational problems in molecular biology, primarily related to evolution and genomics. Our interests are probabilistic modelling of evolution, in particular evolution of genes and genomes, but also somatic evolution in cancer. Bioinformatics: Pairwise sequence alignment of protein and DNA/RNA sequences, multiple sequence alignment, significance of alignment results, features of protein and DNA/RNA sequences including sequence conservation, homology, phylogeny, gene expression and differential gene expression, clustring of vectors, introduction to relevant public databases and extraction of relevant data from these. bioinformatics research at AstraZeneca; sequencing within the human genome project; KTH Royal Institute of Technology SE-100 44 Stockholm Sweden +46 8 790 60 00. At the School of Engineering Sciences in Chemistry, Biotechnology and Health at KTH, there are strong research groups affiliated with the programme within for example gene technology, bioinformatics, and proteomics.
